Whether you use shaving oil all by itself or underneath your usual shaving cream is a matter of personal preference. You can try it both ways and see which works best. Either way, you will find that your blade moves with less friction and cuts closer, which means a quicker shave and less irritation.

The bottles of shaving oil are quite small, usually containing about 12ml of liquid. However, you literally only use 2-4 drops of shaving oil per shave so the bottles can last up to about 3 months. Their small size means they don't take up counter space and can fit easily in a travel shaving kit.

Tip: You can use shaving oil with most electric shavers for an extra-close shave without a razor blade. Check your manufacturers instructions and use 2 drops or so per shave.
